Brooch from Sporle drawn by E T Leeds(Doc Ref AS/2/2/11)

Drawing by E T Leeds

Brooch drawn by Jessica age 10

These brooches were usually worn singly and not in pairs like other brooches.

Cruciform brooches got their name because the top of these brooches looks like a cross. However the owners were probably not Christians.

These brooches varied in size and style; some were decorated others were not. They were worn from the fifth to seventh centuries (about AD450-650) and have mainly been found in Anglian areas, such as East Anglia and the Midlands.
