Horn Objects

If archaeologists dig up a horn core on an Anglo-Saxon site, it tells them that near that place the Anglo-Saxons were probably making lots of different objects from that horn.

The Anglo-Saxons used horn very much like we use plastic.

Horns could be polished and used for drinking.

If horn is heated it can be used to make spoons and bowls.

However, horn does not survive in the ground so these objects are not usually found by archaeologists. Horn cores are found and this is how we know the Anglo-Saxons used them.
